Busy weekend wrap-up, more to come this week

January 17, 2012 - Robert Collias
While my beautiful wife, Denise, a flight attendant for United, is off to Copenhagen with her buddy Janet, I get to stay home with my daughter, Monica, who is waiting to go back to school where her brother, Alex, and all of her Maui-based friends are already there.

So, here I am in a busy time for the MIL.

Boys Division I basketball is under the control of Baldwin, which will be without center Pasoni Tasini this weekend because he will be on football recruiting trip to Oregon State.

Girls D-I basketball is under the control of Lahainaluna, which is no surprise at this point.

The MIL swimmers are super busy these days.

Things aren't going nearly as well for Kalei Adolpho's Wahine basketball team as they did for her Wahine volleyball team in her freshman season.

Don't let the relatively small number of Luna wrestlers who won titles last weekend fool y'all — they are state title contenders and are sitting out many of their best wrestlers right now.

Under the guidance of coach Paul Luuwai, Seabury Hall is dominating two-thirds of MIL paddling. The boys' title chase, however, will continue through at least this week between Maui High, Kamehameha Maui, Baldwin and King Kekaulike.

And, finally, we have never seen an MIL boys soccer chase like this one — as far as I can figure, every team still controls its own destiny not only for a state berth, but also for the crown. I will be at the Lunas-Warriors match this afternoon.
