Today's the (pro) day for "Baby"
March 6, 2012 - Robert Collias
Kealakai Maiava did not get an invitation to an all-star game or the NFL combine after a pretty good college career — he started 34 games on the offensive lines at Colorado and UCLA — so his pro day today in Westwood is crucial to his hopes of joining older brother Kaluka Maiava, a linebacker for the Cleveland Browns, as the only Mauian ever to be drafted.
Here is a link to my story on the youngest Maiava — affectionately nicknamed "Baby" — and his opportunity to share a little with Maui youths before his big day.
In related news, Kaniela Tuipulotu, who grew up in Lahaina, played his freshman season for Lahainaluna and is a brother-in-law to the Maiavas, participated in Hawaii's pro day in Carson, Calif., on Monday but hurt his hamstring in his first 40, which concluded his day. I was forwarded this report from Tony Pauline of SI.com.
Lahainaluna graduate and Hawaii starting OG Andrew Faaumu was not reported to be part of the UH drills.
