Kaupe scores a run in pro debut

June 19, 2012 - Robert Collias
Recent Baldwin High School graduate Branden Kaupe was 0-for-4 at the plate, but he did score a run while batting lead-off for the Kingsport, Tenn., Mets in his professional debut today.

Kaupe's team lost the game 8-4 over the Providence, W.Va., Rays in the Appalachian League opener for both teams.

Kaupe struck out swinging in the first, grounded out to shortstop in the fourth, struck out swinging in the sixth, walked and scored in the eighth and struck out swinging in the ninth. He handled all four of his chances in the field flawlessly. Check out the play-by-play here.

We will have more in the paper tomorrow morning.
