October 14, 2012 - Robert Collias
UPDATE: Baldwin runs a fake punt for the first down of the game on an 11-yard run by Keelan Ewaliko and Dusty Flores cashes in on a 3-yard run to take a 7-0 lead with 3:57 left in the first quarter.
Lunas tie the game 7-7 on a 12-yard pass from Kiko Kohler-Fonohema to Semisi Filikitonga with 9:41 lefrt in the first half.
Wild first half ends 7-7. Third quarter scoreless, still 7-7, Baldwin ball on own 35 going to fourth quarter — Baldwin has not completed a pass in four attempts.
Kohler-Fonohema runs 24 yards for the go-ahead score with 7:46 left to play, Bears answer with 9-yard pass from Ewaliko to Zacharia Coloma-Mariano with 2:16 left, tied 14-14.
Tied at the end of regulation after Ewaliko's final-play 50-yard field goal is blocked by Tytus Lucas.
Bears win 20-17 on a 7-yard touchdown run by Ewaliko after Kohler-Fonohema gave Lunas the lead for the second time with a 27-yard field goal to start OT. Read all about it in much more detail in tomorrow morning's paper.
The game of the season — and maybe the regular-season MIL game of the decade — between Lahainaluna and Baldwin is about 15 minutes from kickoff in front of as packed a house as I can ever remember at War Memorial Stadium. There's 6,000 folks in the stands if there's one.
I had to park in the War Memorial Gym parking lot an hour before kickoff. Kim Ball, a Luna assistant wrestling coach, told me the football parking lot was full at 5 p.m. The Lunas won the JV game, 13-7.
Here is a link to some cool numbers and we will try to keep track as much as we can here, so stay tuned.
