More on a Maui main man, Garner Ivey, 1928-2012
November 14, 2012 - Robert Collias
Among several emails and mahalos we have received on the passing of Maui wrestling icon Garner Ivey, here are a couple I need to share:
Aloha oe Rob,
I saw your wonderful tributes to Garner; what a remarkable contribution he made to our community. You should also know that Garner was an active member of the Rotary Club of Kahului for more than 50 years and was the past president of the club in 1968-69. Thank you for honoring such an important member of our community.
Mahalo nui loa.
A hui hou,
President elect, Rotary Club of Kahului
And this from Joe Miller, one of Ivey's most successful wrestlers at Baldwin before going on to stand out at Boston College:
I decided to send my email after all instead of deleting it. As I reflect back on this wonderful man that I was so blessed and fortunate to know, to have a direct influence in my development in wresting but even more as a man this is a sad moment. He was such an incredible selfless human being.
Again, I wanted to thank you for taking the time to put a passionate and thorough article about this incredible person in print.
Sincerely, Joe Miller
There are a lot more, but these two stand out as important contributions I couldn't fit into the full obituary we did on a great loss for the island and the state (check the link above).
