Nakamura is the new football coach at Kamehameha Maui

April 7, 2013 - Robert Collias
After talking to a few sources with knowledge of the situation, we have learned that Cody Nakamura is the new football coach at Kamehameha Schools Maui.

Nakamura, the former Baldwin High School and Weber State University standout tight end, was an assistant coach for the Bears last season. He is he older brother of Chase Nakamura, who had a record-setting junior season at Baldwin, played one year at the University of Utah, and is going into his senior year at Weber State.

Cody Nakamura emerged over fellow finalists Kaulana Noa, a four-year starter at right tackle for the University of Hawaii who was on the St. Louis Rams practice squad for the 2000 and 2001 seasons, and veteran Maui youth coach Jack Damuni.

Kevin O'Brien, a former head coach for St. Anthony and Pac-3, stepped down as coach of the Warriors after the 2012 season, his third at the KSM helm.

Kyle Sanches was hired as the new coach at King Kekaulike in February, meaning at least 40 percent of the Maui Interscholastic League's five football schools will have new head coaches in the fall.

More on this developing story as we get word.

I feel very disturbed on the decision made by Mr. Gaison. When he says he has a great deal of football IQ, how does he make that decision with someone that has only 2 years of coaching experience. Jack Damuni who everyone knows should be the new coach has 15 plus years in the high school level, he brought the Big boys Football league to Maui, he coached in the collegiate level last year in Arizona, he has pipelines to various collegiate programs which he has been using for Maui athletes for who knows how much years, and many more qualifications than just excitement and positive attitude. I found out through all the rumors going around town that Cody wasn't even one of the finalist chosen by the initial board. I wonder how he got pulled in to the final three. Could it be that one of the proposed assitant coach is the new AD Mr. Gaisons son! Auwe to the new AD of Maui Kamehameha Schools and their whole program!
