Nakamura is the new football coach at Kamehameha Maui
April 7, 2013 - Robert Collias
After talking to a few sources with knowledge of the situation, we have learned that Cody Nakamura is the new football coach at Kamehameha Schools Maui.
Nakamura, the former Baldwin High School and Weber State University standout tight end, was an assistant coach for the Bears last season. He is he older brother of Chase Nakamura, who had a record-setting junior season at Baldwin, played one year at the University of Utah, and is going into his senior year at Weber State.
Cody Nakamura emerged over fellow finalists Kaulana Noa, a four-year starter at right tackle for the University of Hawaii who was on the St. Louis Rams practice squad for the 2000 and 2001 seasons, and veteran Maui youth coach Jack Damuni.
Kevin O'Brien, a former head coach for St. Anthony and Pac-3, stepped down as coach of the Warriors after the 2012 season, his third at the KSM helm.
Kyle Sanches was hired as the new coach at King Kekaulike in February, meaning at least 40 percent of the Maui Interscholastic League's five football schools will have new head coaches in the fall.
More on this developing story as we get word.
