Tough start for Molokai, Hana at D-II state softball
May 2, 2013 - Robert Collias
While it is important for Maui to support the event, things have not started well for the MIL contingent at the DataHouse Division II state softball tournament going on at Patsy Mink Field on Maui High's campus.
MIL champion and fourth-seeded Molokai was held hitless in a 10-0, 5-inning loss to St. Francis Wednesday.
One night earlier, MIL runner-up Hana went down in an 11-4 loss to Kohala, the third-place team from the BIIF.
The MIL contingent has combined to commit 14 errors — double its number of hits — in the first two games.
On a very cool note in my book, the Dragons lost their opener in a game that finished about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday night, jumped back on their van for the 2 1/2-hour ride home, attended school on Wednesday, got back on the van and were there to support Molokai on Wednesday night, and then went back to East Maui to sleep before coming back for their 11 a.m. consolation game today.
If they are anything, the Dragons are the queens of travel for this event, even on their home island.
Both MIL teams have consolation games today — and as the first link above says, it is important to support this event if it or more like it are to be played on Maui in the future.
