Shake it up at Kaanapali Fresh with fun mixology class
August 23, 2013 - Carla Tracy
Kaanapali Fresh, a series of fine food events, will be shaking it up on Friday, Aug. 30 with a Mixology class from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Royal Lahaina Resort.
Mixologist Chandra Lucariello will demonstrate a variety of refreshing cocktails made with Maui vodka and rums while incorporating fresh tropical fruit.
“It is just as important to embrace the farm-to-table elements at the bar as it is in the dining room,” she says. Among the featured drinks is the Hana Hou, a cocktail she created for Kaanapali Fresh 2013. The phrase in Hawaiian means “one more time” and you’ll be asking for another one right after the first one.
Lucariello hails from Oahu, where she serves as Director of Mixology for Southern Wine and Spirits of Hawaii in Honolulu. She has 18 years of experience in the restaurant bar industry and is also education director for the Hawaii chapter of the United States Bartender Guild.
For $26 per adult, the event features a sampling of refreshing beverages, light pupu and hands-on practice guaranteed to improve the skills of even the most experienced bartender. Food and beverage professionals and kamaaina are encouraged to attend.
Support for the demonstration comes from Ocean Vodka, which hand crafts USDA-certified organic vodka; and Old Lahaina Rum, a father-and-son team making fine rums with Maui raw sugar and molasses.
“We are so pleased to feature Chandra again in Kaanapali Fresh,” says Shelley Kekuna, executive director of KBRA. “We urge you to join us for this and other events in the series.”
Tickets are on sale for the mixology class as well as a progressive dinner, coffee tour, and signature dinner. Musicians will include Makana, Amy Hanaialii and Jake Shimabukuru. Visit Kaanapali Fresh Website. For more information contact (808) 661-3271.
