Biggest check of Cyr's life arrives just before typhoon

October 7, 2013 - Robert Collias
It is hard to blame Sam Cyr, a 2005 King Kekaulike High School graduate, for his closing 77 at the Mercuries Taiwan Masters — Typhoon Fitow was closing in, for goodness sake.

Cyr held on for second place and $72,000, by far the largest paycheck of his career. He wasn't the only golfer who struggled in the final round.

Cyr vaulted from 81st, with a little more than $21K in eight events, to 21st on the Asian Tour Order of Merit.

He is also now a career-high 549th on the Official World Golf Rankings — he was not in the top 1,000 last week.
