Cover 2 Power Polls, my votes, thoughts on MIL stats

October 8, 2013 - Robert Collias
Here are the KHON Cover 2 Power Poll results released last night:

Division I

1. Punahou (25) (7-0)

2. Mililani (7-1)

3. Kamehameha (7-1)

4. Saint Louis (5-2)

5. Campbell (6-2)

6. Waianae (6-2)

7. Farrington (6-2)

8. Kahuku (5-3)

9. Hilo (7-1)

10. Baldwin (5-3).

Division II

1. Lahainaluna (15) (7-0)

2. Kaiser (10) (7-1)

3. Kauai (6-0)

4. Radford (7-1)

5. ‘Iolani (5-4).

Here is how I voted: DI—1. Punahou, 2. Mililani, 3. Kamehameha-Kapalama, 4. Saint Louis, 5. Farrington, 6. Waianae, 7. Kahuku, 8. Kapolei, 9. Campbell. 10. Baldwin.

DII—1. Lunas, 2. Kauai, 3. Kaiser, 4. Iolani, 5. Kona.

A look at the MIL stats, set to be published Tuesday, shows a few eye-popping numbers for the Lunas. After giving up just 30 yards last week in a 55-6 win over King Kekaulike, the surrender only 103.2 yards per MIL game, or 197.8 yards per game better than the second-best defense, Baldwin (301.0 ypg).

Oh yeah, the Lunas also average 409.4 yards per game on offense, 89.9 percent of which comes on the ground.

I thought it was pretty remarkable last season when the Lunas finished at 98.0 ypg given up on defense and over 300 on offense for a team that had running clocks nearly all the time.

More on the MIL stats when they come out tomorrow.
