Maui duo in North Carolina for jr. national swim meet

December 11, 2013 - Robert Collias
A pair of MIL swimmers — Jonah Hu of Baldwin and Sky Hirsch of Maui Prep — are in North Carolina for the U.S. Swimming Winter Junior Nationals, along with Maui High coach Reid Yamamoto.

Hu, who represents Maui Swim Club, is seeded 102nd in the 50-yard freestyle (21.25 seconds), 20th in the 100 breaststroke (56.29), 119th in the 100 backstroke (51.25), and 11th in the 200 breast (2:02.27).

Hirsch, representing Hawaii Swimming Club, is seeded 41st in the 50 free (20.87).

Yamamoto is a coach for HSC and the best in the state at what he does. On this trip, Yamamoto is helping Hu, whose MSC coach Spencer Shiraishi passed away earlier this year.

The meet starts Thursday — we will have results here and, of course, in the paper.
