Karaviotis' first college hit delivers a win for Oregon
February 23, 2014 - Robert Collias
Maui High School graduate Mark Karaviotis collected his first collegiate hit Saturday — a two-run, pinch-hit double — to plate the final two runs in the University of oregon's 5-3 win over Loyola Marymount. My guewss is this is just the first of a lot of highlights for the talented young shortstop.
This is the start of the school's release on goducks.com:
LOS ANGELES – Freshman Mark Karaviotis delivered a two-out two-run single in the top of the ninth inning to break a tie and lead No. 7 Oregon to a 5-3 win at Loyola Marymount on Saturday in game two of a three-game series.
Karaviotis capped a rally by Oregon that started after the first two hitters in the ninth made an out. Freshman A.J. Balta sparked the team with a single and moved to third on a pinch hit single by junior Stephen Packard. Freshman pinch hitter Austin Grebeck loaded the bases when he was hit by a pitch bringing Karaviotis to the plate.
