Maui High grad Karaviotis collects two hits and two runs in two wins for Oregon
March 5, 2014 - Robert Collias
Mark Karaviotis told me last season "I live for this" when his Maui High School baseball team was battling for a spot in the state tournament, which the Sabers eventually claimed.
Tuesday in a mid-week doubleheader sweep over Seattle, Karaviotis started both games at shortstop for the 14th-ranked Oregon Ducks.
Karaviotis finished the day 2-for-7 with the two runs and is now hitting .235 in 11 games, four of them starts for 8-3 Oregon. He had two putouts and two assists on the day — he is fielding .947 with seven putouts, 11 assists and just one error.
Karaviotis is making a major push for playing time — he played all 18 innings Tuesday and has started the last three games — against fifth-year senior Kevin Minjares, who is hitting just .167 in 11 games, nine starts.
Here is the Eugene Register-Guard's take on the sweep.
And here is the (Portland) Oregonian's repeat of the school's release.
