India Express opens in Wharf Cinema Center in Lahaina

May 6, 2014 - Carla Tracy

Wharf Cinema Center in Lahaina announces the opening of India Express in the former Monsoon India location.

The owners of India Express welcome the community to join them for a special Mother’s Day grand opening on Sunday. Bring Mom for lunch or dinner and receive half off a second entree. Order five or more entrees and receive the 6th one free.

Chef-owner Zakir “Jay” is a native of West Bangal, India. Then he grew up in Hoquiam, Washington and has been preparing Northern Indian cuisine for as long as he can remember. He’s also cooked from Alaska to California.

“Jay uses only fresh, local ingredients with the exception of the unique spices that are only found in India,” says Narda MdDaniel, director of sales and marketing for Wharf Cinema Center. “India Express focuses on the favorites such as masala, korma, vindaloo, saag and kabobs.”

“Eating healthy has never been so tasty. Chose your favorite, make it vegetarian or add fresh fish, chicken or lamb. The unique spices make every entree delicious and full of flavor, you are encouraged (and will be asked) how spicy you like it.”

Tandoor naan is baked like bread in a clay oven and may be ordered plain or with garlic, onion, coconut, shrimp or cheese.

Express lunch is $6.95 for soup of the day (dahl or Mullgatawny), which comes with a generous order of naan. Call ahead to expedite your order. Ask for a punch card and get your sixth lunch free.

India Express is located on the plaza level of The Wharf Cinema Center next to the tropical koi pond. Hours are daily from 11 a.m. to 9:30 pm. Free local delivery. Call 661-1207 or visit India Express.
