Seabury Hall, MIL burning it up at state track
May 11, 2014 - Robert Collias
I'm not doing a great job keeping up, but I do know Seabury Hall's girls track team just rolled to the state team title, the first for an MIL girls team.
The Spartans finished with 73 points, almost double second-place Kailua (38). Punahou was third with 34. Seabury gathered 60 points with six state individual titles — Alyssa Bettendorf won the 100, 200 and 400, all coming from behind, Dakota Grossman won the ninth and 10the individual titles of her record-setting career, in the 1,500 and 3,000 and Amy Ozee started things with the high jump crown on Friday night.
Earlier: Bettendorf has come from behind to win the 100 and 400, Dakota Grossman won the 1,500 and Daniel Pietsch got in the mix for the boys with a win in the 400. Bettendorf added another come-from-behind win in the 200 and King Kekaulike's Jake Jacobs just won the boys 800.
"This is just a great team win," Bettendorf said after her 200 win, which gave the Spartans a 52-30 lead over second-place Kailua.
Grossman just added her 10th individual state title with her fourth straight win in the 3,000 and Spartans have virtually clinched the team title with the top-seeded 1,600 relay team still to come.
