Maui Big Leaguers beat Southern Cal in 8 innings

July 15, 2014 - Robert Collias
For the first time in manager Steve Leis' four trips to the Big League West Regional, his Maui team beat the Southern California representative, Thousand Oaks, 4-3 in walk-off fashion 8 innings in Bremerton, Wash.

"It's the first time we have beaten that team and it feels really good," Leis told me via phone.

David Rapanot raced home from second base on a misplayed groundball off the bat of Makana Victorine to score the winning run.

Rapanot finished 3-for-3 at the plate, while Gabe Gunter was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Noah Apolo got the win on the mound in relief of Sammy Sutton and Micah Richardson.

Maui plays the host team in its second game of the tournament Wednesday at 9 a.m.

We will try to keep up with it all right here all tournament long.
