Maui's title in the Senioir League Western Regional from a California perspective

August 6, 2014 - Robert Collias
This story was sent to me today, written by Jason Nowa of the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin newspaper from the Los Angeles area — it is the local paper's story on Central East Maui's amazing comeback to capture the championship in the Senior League Western Regional on Tuesday:

A year ago, Manhattan Beach lost a heartbreaker to Pearl City, Hawaii, in the Western Region Senior Baseball Tournament at Jay Littleton Ballpark in Ontario.

And on Tuesday night, Manhattan Beach was stunned again by another Hawaii team. This time it was Central East Maui Little League beating Manhattan Beach 12-4 in the championship game.

Hawaii, which scored 10 runs in the seventh inning to turn a 4-2 deficit into a 12-4 lead, advances to the Little League Senior World Series in Bangor, Maine, next week.

"I don't know how we did it, we just believe in the kids, they believe in themselves, we just believe," said Hawaii manager Lee Kashiwamura. "We've been telling the kids that all year just to believe, and we believe!"
