The Bald-Headed Truth

More on VictorinoJust watching the live morning SportsCenter on ESPN and saw that Shane Victorino’s grand slam leading the Phillies to a 5-2 win over Milwaukee on Thursday was named the No. 1 play of the day.It is also the first grand slam in Phillies’ postseason history. Pretty amazing stuff for those who remember Shane as a kid who dominated every youth soccer and baseball league and then high school standout at St. Anthony. When I did the 1999 MIL Boy Athlete of the Year story on Shane as a senior, we asked the question to a few different people if he was the best athlete ever to come out of Maui. At the time, it might have seemed a little presumptuous for an island that produced the likes of Wally Yonamine and Kenji Kawaguchi, but not anymore.
