The Bald-Headed Truth

KKHS FB probe involves civil rightsAs promised, here is more to the King Kekaulike High School football probe, as Maui County’s Board of Education member, Mary Cochran, confirmed to me Sunday that the investigation being headed by Maui Superintendent Bruce Anderson involves the DOE’s civil rights office.Again, the story hits Page A1 of The Maui News. The reasons for it involving the civil rights office, according to Cochran, are the possible connotations of the gesture. Here is the way Cochran put it to me for the story in the link above: 'The civil rights office is investigating, as well as Bruce, because there are some things you just don't do,' Cochran said via phone on Sunday morning. 'I am going to let the process run its course. I will let the investigation happen, but when I saw that letter to the editor (in The Maui News on Wednesday), I really became concerned. This one could not be ignored - and civil rights is all part of it - because it could rise to the level of sexual harassment. 'The DOE has got its own civil rights office. That is the reason why they are involved in this, because it has got sexual connotations.'
