Writer's Block

GoodreadsBlog Links» GoodreadsMaybe since I'm married, busy and, well, boring, I haven't jumped on the social networking bandwagon. It's enough work keeping up with my real friends; do I really want to sign up for virtual ones on MySpace or Facebook? But this weekend I saw the light and signed up for Goodreads, a social networking site where you can talk books through cyberspace. I love books, but lately I've been in a reading rut. I ran out of books in my favorite series, the Dresden Files, and was waffling back and forth between fiction and nonfiction for my next read. I love Haruki Murakami, and tried picking up a book of his I hadn't read before, but it was off his B-list and just didn't measure up to Wind Up Bird Chronicle or Wild Sheep Chase. Sure enough, I got some great ideas for new books in my first few minutes snooping around Goodreads. I connected with friends (real ones) and saw what was on their shelves. I could find other people who liked the same books I did, and see what else they were reading. I could even check out who'd ready MY book! Well, James Alexander in Austin, Texas, I hope you enjoyed it!
