Kim Santos’ April 15 letter clearly demonstrates to me why deliberate inaccuracies and statements coming out of the County Council confuse the public and should be corrected.
The facts regarding the Maui Lani subdivision and the grading ordinances:
• A law was passed in 1991 to change where one measures the level of height on a property to determine how tall a building in a residential zone can be.
• Mike Foley, our planning director, discovered that county departments were not following this law. Hence, our administration took action to require the departments to follow the rule.
• The mayor does not approve grading permits; the Public Works director and members of his department review and grant or disapprove them.
