If you thought you saw fairies flitting around Keopuolani Park last Friday, don’t be concerned, you weren’t hallucinating. There really were fairies — three of them to be exact: Flora, Fauna and Merryweather — practicing their enchantment for Baldwin High School’s production of “Sleeping Beauty.” “I wanted the kids to get the feeling of being in the woods,” says Baldwin High School drama teacher Linda Carnevale. Last week’s furlough day provided an opportunity for a nontraditional rehearsal in an outdoor setting. As they get ready for Friday’s opening night, the cast of 38 students has been working hard but enjoying themselves at the same time. In contrast to last year’s crop of seniors, many Baldwin actors this year are freshmen. “It was an adjustment,” Carnevale says. “But the new kids who came in have been really eager; they just stepped up, and they’re a really lovely group of kids.
