WAILUKU – Athletes from Kiffmann Taekwondo of Maui won 17 gold medals in sparring and eight in forms at the inaugural International Taekwondo Championship at War Memorial Gym on Sunday.
The event had over 200 competitors, including athletes from Argentina and the Philippines.Chelsea Davis was a double winner in the 14-17 female red belt division. Miles Kiffmann won a pair of gold medals in the 12-13 male black belt division. R.J. Agaran was a double winner in the male black belt division.
The sparring gold medal winners from Kiffmann include Imelda Castro, Kellen Bean, Michael Minkler, Briana Owades, Bradley Castro, James Kahookele, Jasmin Juan, Jake Bonnell, Angelo Deloso-Floco, Christian Sialana, Alicia Schmidthans, Ciara Thyne, Andrea Thyne and Jessica Thyne.
Kiffmann’s forms gold medal winners were Brandon Alcala, Michael Balderas, Kavyka Souza, Colin England and Kanani Davis.
Agaran, who is a kidney disease survivor and has a black belt, was presented with an award from USA Taekwondo for his gold medal-performance at the Junior Olympics in San Antonio.
