KIFFMANN SENDS 11 TO NATIONAL QUALIFIER

WAILUKU – Kiffmann Taekwondo will send 11 athletes to the World Class Division qualifier for the U.S. National Taekwondo Championships, scheduled for April 22-23 in Anaheim, Calif.

The athletes include Kavyka Souza, a 2005 National Junior Olympic black-belt gold medalist; Ciara Thyne, a 2005 National Junior Olympic gold medalist; Andrea and Jessica Thyne, who are both 2005 National Junior Olympic medalists; Imelda Castro, a 2006 U.S. Open black-belt gold medalist; Miles Kiffmann, a 2005 International black-belt gold medalist; Imelda Castro, a medalist at black belt in the 2006 U.S. Open; Chelsea Davis, a 2005 International double gold medalist; and Kanani Davis, a 2005 International gold medalist.

The Kiffmann newcomers who will compete are Bradley Castro, Angelo Delosso Flocco and black-belt Michael Balderas.

Kiffmann will send 15 athletes to the upcoming U.S. National Junior Olympics in Atlanta.

KAANAPALI CLASSIC SCHEDULED FOR MAY 7

LAHAINA – The Kaanapali Klassic, a 1.2-mile ocean swim race sponsored by Lahaina Swim Club, is scheduled for May 7.

The event starts at Hanakaoo (Canoe) Beach Park and finishes in front of the Hula Grill restaurant on Kaanapali Beach.

The entry fee is $20 per swimmer, or $25 on the day of the race, and pays for a T-shirt. Applications can be picked up at any county pool or by e-mailing

lahainaswimclub@hotmail.com.

TENNIS TOURNAMENT ACCEPTING ENTRANTS

KAPALUA – Tennis players between the ages of 35 and 70 are eligible to compete in the 25th annual Kapalua Junior Vet/Senior Tennis Championships, scheduled for May 5-7 at Kapalua Tennis Garden.

Men and women will compete in age division play.

The entry fee is $50 per person and pays for a T-shirt, prizes, awards and a ticket to the tournament party. The deadline to enter is April 30.
