KIFFMANN ATHLETES WIN 54 MEDALS ON OAHU
WAIPAHU, Oahu – Kiffmann Taekwondo athletes won 54 medals, including 17 golds, at the Oahu Open on Saturday at Waipahu High School.In the black-belt division, U’i Jones won two gold medals, Ciara Thyne won a gold and a silver, Miles Kiffmann and Andrea Thyne each won two silvers, Jamal Jones won a silver and a bronze, Alicia Schmidthans, Jessica Thyne and Hi’i Aiwohi each won a silver and Kaylee Calubaquib won a bronze.
Calubaquib won two golds in the color-belt division, Aiwohi won one gold and Schmidthans won a silver.
Also in the color-belt division, Peter Nelson won two golds, Kohoku Benevides, Angelo DeLoso Flocco, Joan Cho and David Lee each won a gold and a silver, Dayna Calubaquib, Cammy Henry, Cade Kalehuawehe, Po’ai Keahi and Christian Sialana won a gold and a bronze, Ashley Rodgiquez won two silvers, Megan Andres, Alex Ballard, Jane Cho, Jaeyok Lee and Aryanna Peirra won a silver and a bronze, Travis Pinheiro won two bronzes and Desiree McGuire and Jada McGuire each won one silver.
TUZON FINISHES FIFTH AT NAIA CHAMPIONSHIPS
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Former Baldwin High School wrestler Ryan Tuzon, a redshirt freshman at Dana (Neb.) College, finished fifth at 165 pounds in the NAIA championships over the weekend.
Tuzon defeated JaVonte Ashford of King College 9-4 in the opening round, then beat Clay Weier of McKendree 10-8. In the quarterfinals, Tuzon defeated Stephen Towne 6-5. Tuzon then lost 17-5 to Lindenwood’s Jake Dieffenbach in the semifinals, and was pinned by Calvin DeVault of Embry-Riddle in the consolation semifinals. In the fifth-place match, Tuzon defeated William Penn’s Nate Stirgus 7-4.
Last month, Tuzon received an honorable mention on the Great Plains Athletic Conference team.
MAUI SHRINE CLUB GOLF EVENT SET FOR MARCH 31
WAILUKU – A Maui Shrine Club benefit golf tournament is scheduled for March 31 at the King Kamehameha Golf Club’s Kahili Course, with a 1 p.m. shotgun start.
The entry fee for the four-person scramble is $125 per person, which pays for green and cart fees, and an awards dinner.
The club is also seeking sponsors for the tournament.
The event will raise funds for the club’s children’s transportation fund, which is used to help children and their guardians from throughout the Pacific Rim get to the Shriners Children’s Hospital in Honolulu.

VANCOUVER MAN ACES NO. 3 AT WAILEA GOLD
WAILEA – Ken Wilhelm of Vancouver, British Columbia, had a hole-in-one at the Wailea Gold Course’s third hole on Dec. 8.
Wilhelm used a 7-wood to ace the 179-yard hole.
The witnesses were Ken Takata, Vic Moroz and Larry Yopyk.
