Horse race sticks to tradition

MAKAWAO – Despite the loss of Makawao icon and longtime parade supporter Gary Moore in April, the wooden mounts of the Paniolo Parade stick horse race will ride on.

Keiki taking part in the 2006 Makawao Parade stick horse race gallops up and down Baldwin Avenue during the annual event. The tradition continues on July 7, with Beefy Corley coordinating the annual run for fun that precedes the parade through the town.
