ADULT SWIM WORKOUTS OFFERED IN KIHEI

KIHEI – Valley Isle Masters Swimmers and coach Janet Renner are offering training sessions geared as an introduction to swim workouts and the open water swim season.

Workouts will be at Kihei Aquatic Center Monday and Thursday evening, starting on July 30. Warm ups begin at 6:30 p.m. and workouts run from 6:45 to 7:30 p.m.

Participants are required to bring a suit (preferably snug fitting and not baggy), goggles, fins and a cap for those with long hair.

Cost is $75 per person. Deadline to reserve a spot is July 28.

KIFFMANN TEAM BRINGS HOME 28 MEDALS

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Kiffmann’s Maui Elite Taekwondo team won a total of 28 medals at the 2007 U.S. National Senior and Junior Taekwondo Championship last week.

The Kiffmann team won 16 gold, 5 silver and 7 bronze medals, making it the most successful meet ever for the team, according to head coach Master Guenter Kiffmann.

Kiffmann black belt Aisha Jones missed a chance to compete at the U.S. team trials, falling only a point short of qualifying.

ASATO TAKES THIRD AT WAIALAE INVITATIONAL

HONOLULU – Maui’s Ernette Asato shot a 79 during the final round of the Waialae Women’s Invitational on Tuesday, giving her third place in the A flight at Waialae Country Club.

Asato, of Waiehu Women’s Golf Club, finished with a 149, two shots in back of winner Kimiko Suzuki and one back of Linda Johnston.
