KIFFMANN TAEKWONDO WINS SIX GOLD MEDALS

MILILANI, Oahu – Eight athletes from Kiffmann Taekwondo won a total of 16 medals, six of them gold, at the Hawaiian Islands Taekwondo Championship on Saturday.

Arvin Baon won two golds, while Christian Sialana brought home a gold, silver and bronze. Jordan Soma won a gold and two bronzes, Kaylee Calubaquib won a gold and silver while Bradley Castro won a gold.

Other Kiffmann medalists were Dayna Calubaquib (two silver), Isaac Owades (silver, bronze) and Po’ai Keahi (bronze).

THREE MAUIANS PLACE SECOND AT NFL EVENT

SAN DIEGO – Five Boys and Girls Club of Maui members participated in the regional semifinal round of the Pepsi and NFL Punt, Pass and Kick Tournament on Nov. 25 at the San Diego Chargers’ practice field.

Three Maui competitors placed second in their age groups – Analea Martin (girls 12-13) of the Central Maui club, and David Smith (boys 14-15) and Lalilei Mataafa (girls 8-9) of the West Maui club.

Gina Bella Mataafa of West Maui placed third in the girls 14-15 division, and Derek Hight of the Haiku club took fourth in the boys 8-9 age group.

Th event had a total of 40 competitors in four age groups. The winners from each group were eligible to qualify for the national competition.

After the competition, the Maui participants attended the Chargers’ game against the Baltimore Ravens.

FLAG FOOTBALL TOURNEY SET FOR DEC. 22-23

WAILUKU – The Flag Football Challenge, hosted by the READ Foundation and Hawaii Team Sports, is scheduled for Dec. 22-23 at Keopuolani Park.

Divisions for the event start at age 8 and over. The winners of the 18-and-over division will play at the Hawaii Flag Football Championships during Pro Bowl weekend on Oahu.

For every team that registers, a toy will be donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Maui.
