Chamber to study TVR options
KAHULUI — The Maui Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a workshop on ways to appropriately manage a transient vacation rental sector in Maui’s economy.
Chamber President Pamela Tumpap said the goal is to find ways Maui County could accommodate its existing vacation rental businesses.
“The question is, what sort of vacation rentals do we want, what should these businesses look like, how can we create appropriate legislation, and how can we work with our county government to best achieve those goals.”
The workshop will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center.
Tumpap said the concept of the workshop came from a suggestion of Gladys Baisa, the chairwoman of the County Council Planning Committee. The committee will begin reviewing a package of vacation rental bills next week. “Council Member Baisa suggested that it would be helpful if the community already had a chance to review and comment on these bills before the council begins its work,” said Tumpap.
She said the chamber is looking for balanced participation in the workshop. For that reason, and because of limited space, anyone interested in attending is asked to call the chamber, 871-7711. Seating will be allocated to create a balanced audience, the chamber says.
The workshop will include audience participation.
