The public is invited to a special “Night at the Reef” on Thursday, March 13, to celebrate the aquarium’s 10th anniversary. There will be cupcakes and anniversary candles.
Guests can visit the aquarium’s “Living Reef” exhibits after-hours, enjoy pupu and beverages available for purchase, view rare footage of live coral spawning and interact with volunteers from local eco-organizations with information on the state of Hawaii’s coral reef eco-systems.
Doors open at 6 p.m. and admission is $18 for adults with discounts for children, members and kamaaina. Reservations are recommended at 270-7088.

AN EVENING IN NAPA . . .
Seats are selling fast for the “Cakebread Winery, An Evening in Napa” winemaker dinner at The SeaWatch Restaurant in Wailea.
“Cakebread Winery is in the top echelon of wineries,” said publicist David Hoffman of Next Step Marketing. “This will be a rare opportunity to taste some of their best wines without having to buy a number of expensive bottles.”
SeaWatch Executive Chef Todd Carlos has created a prix fixe four-course meal for $95 that will compliment select wines.
The evening will begin with grilled prawns on baby arugula with lemon cape vinaigrette and roasted garlic aioli. This course will be paired with 2006 Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley.
Next, a 2005 Chardonnay Napa Valley will be served with roasted opakapaka on asparagus and heirloom tomato couscous kalamata olive tapenade.
The third course features confit of Moulard duck ballonine with ohelo berry glaze, purple sweet potato puree and crispy sage. This will be served with 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley.
A “death by chocolate” flourless cake and 2005 Vietti Cascinetta Moscato D’Asti will complete the meal. Call 875-8080 for reservations.

MEALS AT THE MACC . . . Vasi’s Gourmet Catering will offer choices of meatloaf with caramelized onions and brown gravy and spanikopita in the Founders’ Court from 5:30 p.m. preceding an appearance by The Joshua Redman Trio this evening.
Penne Pasta Cafe will serve Italian fare before Friday’s performance by Lea Salonga from 5:30 p.m. Entrees will include penne pomodoro; chicken parmesan and fresh mahimahi picatta.
Penne Pasta Cafe will offer the same menu from 5:30 p.m. Saturday preceding Margaret Cho’s performance.
Pupu and beverage will be available for purchase at Maui Ocean Center during the “Night at the Reef” program March 13.
