STUDENTS EXPERIENCE FINE DINING . . . Chef Ryan Luckey, a Lahainaluna alumni, and Pineapple Grill at Kapalua Resort, hosted 11 members of the Lahainaluna Food Service Club at the restaurant last month.
Club members contacted Chef Ryan and requested a tour of the restaurant and an opportunity to experience a meal in the fine dining establishment.
Chef Ryan showed the students what can be accomplished in the kitchen and how healthy meals can be created at home.
“It’s an honor to host students in our restaurant, show them the kitchen and how the restaurant business operates,” said Chef Ryan. “It seems like only yesterday I was dreaming of cooking and now it’s a reality that I enjoy every day.”
The club is in its first year and is an extension of the Food Service, Food Science and Public and Human Services Core Pathway being offered by the school. The club was started by students interested in pursuing careers in the food service industry and highly interested in the culinary arts.
In addition to Chef Ryan, Pineapple Grill has four alumni from Lahainaluna. They area Sous Chef Kaipo Nakata and other employees Kaulana Na Pua Obatay, Romeo Ramos, and Kimo Nahooikaika. In addition, current student Michael Elefante works part-time in the restaurant.
TOAST . . . The Grand Wailea’s Signature Wine Series continues from 5:30 to 9 p.m. March 27 with Chef Mike Lofaro and Elise Faur of Jordan Winery. The Celebration of Grand Food & Fine Wine will feature select Jordan Winery vintages paired with chef’s creations at the resort’s humuhumu restaurant. Call 875-1234 for reservations. INCUBUS . . . The five-piece alternative rock band Incubus will perform at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center A&B Amphitheater Saturday with gates opening at 5 p.m. and the show scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Grinds will be provided by Ono Gelato, Maui Tacos, and Alexander’s Fish & Chips. Also available will be regular size bags of Maui Kazowie Kettlecorn, soft drinks, beer and wine.
