Man arrested after chase
WAIKAPU — Bail was set at $57,400 for a Paia man who ran after being stopped in a stolen car Thursday in Waikapu, police said.
Chad Valoroso, 43, was seen driving the 2008 Pontiac sedan on Honoapiilani Highway near Maui Tropical Plantation, said Lt. Don Simpson of the Criminal Investigation Division.
He said Valoroso stopped the car near West Waiko Road and started running. When police officers managed to apprehend him nearby, Valoroso struggled during the arrest, Simpson said.
He said police obtained permission to search Valoroso’s waistpack, which contained suspected methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana and prescription drugs.
The arrest occurred at 12:28 p.m.
Valoroso was charged with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, three counts each of third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and possessing drug paraphernalia, third-degree promotion of a detrimental drug, two counts of fourth-degree promotion of a harmful drug, driving without a license and resisting arrest.
His passenger, a 50-year-old Haiku man, was released pending further investigation.
