UH offerings to be on display at Longs
KIHEI — An informational display will be set up Monday and May 14 at the Kihei Longs Drug Store on educational programs available in South Maui through the University of Hawaii Center-Maui.
The UH Center provides classes at the Maui Research & Technology Center providing for professional certification, bachelor’s degrees and master’s degrees in programs provided by UH Manoa, UH West Oahu and UH Hilo.
Among other programs, UH West Oahu has announced a new political science concentration as part of an online curriculum for a bachelor of arts in social science. The course involves interdisciplinary studies including classes in philosophy, statistics and humanities.
UH Center personnel will be at the displays from noon to 2 p.m. Monday and 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. May 14. Information is also available by calling the UH Center Maui at 875-5979 or by sending e-mail to email@example.com.
Valley Isle Keiki Fest offers MCC activities
KAHULUI — The Valley Isle Keiki Fest with activities and entertainment for the children will be held Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Great Lawn at Maui Community College.
“Celebrating the Keiki” is being held in conjunction with the Month of the Young Child. The goal of the event is to promote a positive community environment for children to be safe, healthy and ready to succeed.
Zenshin Daiko, Gamekids and Te Tiare Patitifa will perform, with other activities including a bouncing castle; a bicycle safety rodeo, where children may qualify to enter a drawing for a new bicycle; and hands-on activities set up by many island preschools.
Office on Aging now taking nominations
WAILUKU — Nominations for Maui County’s “Outstanding Older Americans 2008” will be accepted through today at the Maui County Office on Aging, the county has announced.
A recognition ceremony and luncheon will be held April 30 at the Maui Beach Hotel.
One male and one female will be chosen as the Outstanding Older Americans of Maui County to represent the county with Tavares at a state ceremony held at Washington Place in Honolulu on May 22.
Any individual or organization may file a nomination. Nomination forms are available online at www.mauicounty.gov, link through the “What is New” box, or at the County Office on Aging office at One Main Plaza, Suite 547.
