Car set off fire in Kapalua brush

KAPALUA — A fire that burned about 60 acres of brush Thursday was ignited by a car’s exhaust system while the vehicle was parked over tall grass, fire officials determined.

The fire, which was a quarter-mile mauka of Pineapple Hill, was finally extinguished at 9:35 a.m. Friday by firefighters who worked through the night. The fire was reported at 3 p.m. Thursday and was contained about four hours later.

No homes were threatened and no injuries were reported.
