Teachers honored
Thirty educators were honored last weekend for participating in dozens of hours of education and training to incorporate the arts into their work with children.
The annual Teachers Awards Program was held Saturday at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, which partnered with the state Department of Education and Kamehameha Schools Maui in coordinating the event.
For every 32 hours of course work completed in a two-year period, teachers earn a Certificate of Study Award. Teachers who put in more than 380 hours are recognized as Master Arts Integration Teachers.
The honorees for Master Arts Integration Teacher are: Gail Kuba, Kamehameha Schools Maui, and Linda Holt and Rae Takemoto, Pomaikai Elementary School.
Certificate awardees included: Janice Acopan, Donelle Bancaco, John Davis, Jennifer Emde, Lisa Fanning, Kevin McMullen, Piper Orwig, Will Stack, Leni Tanaka, Debi Tisdell, Kate Welch, Lisa Yagi and Janice Yoshizu of Pomaikai Elementary School; Christine Daikoku of King Kekaulike High School; Shawna Fischer and Laura Gregg of Kahului Elementary School; Jennifer Nadler, Beth Senner and Grant Senner of Hana Elementary School; Eliza Akana, Judy Locke, Renee Romerdahl and Aimee Tanaka of Kihei Elementary School; Jolyne Rego of Montessori of Maui; Maggie Prevenas of Kalama Intermediate School; Ann Camit of Maui Waena Intermediate School; and Miki Kapisi of Kamehameha Schools Maui.
