Kiffmann team wins 14 black-belt golds
PEARL CITY, Oahu — Miles Kiffmann won four black-belt gold medals, and Kiffmann Taekwondo teammate Michael Blalderas earned three, at the Hawaii State Championships on Saturday.
Angelo Deloso-Flocco, Jamal Jones, Kathryn Kiffmann and Imelda Castro each won two black-belt golds, and Jake Bonnell won one.
In the color-belt divisions, Arvin Baon and Laney Flanagan each won two golds and two silvers, and Po‘ai Keahi, Alicia Schmidthans, Joan Cho, Rhonda Fosbinder and Bernie McPherson each won two golds.
Christian Sialana, David Lee, Jane Cho, Bradley Castro and Camryn Henry each won a gold and a color-belt silver, and Jae Hyok Lee won a gold.
Kellen Bean won a silver and bronze in the black-belt division, and Jordan Soma won a color-belt silver.
Gold medal winners qualified to compete in the world-class divisions at the USA Taekwondo national championships July 1-6 in Detroit.
MIL?players help win exhibition game
WAIPAHU — Jordan Acgaoili of Maui High School and St. Anthony’s Michael Jahns helped the White team defeat the Gray team 17-0 in the Sugar Mill High School Baseball Showcase on Sunday at Hans L’Orange Park.
The game, which is for high school seniors from teams across the state, was revived this year after a one-year hiatus.
Okada, Ting tie atop Public Links tourney
WAILUKU — Elyse Okada, a four-time Maui Interscholastic League champion at Maui High, and Wailuku’s Desiree Ting each carded 2-over-par 74s on Saturday in a qualifier for the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship at Kahili Golf Course.
Both women turned down spots in the tournament. University of Idaho golfer Kelly Nakashima (77), a Baldwin graduate, and Maui High’s Kelcie Kawano (78) took the spots in the tournament, scheduled for June 16-21 at Erin Hills Golf Course in Wisconsin.
