Pasteles workshop: it’s a wrap

Maui County Prosecutor Ben Acob of Wailuku adds some masa, which is made from green bananas, to his dish while practicing making pasteles Sunday morning.

Student Jeri Enriques of Makawao works with Maui Puerto Rican Association member Alberta Tabaco of Haiku while preparing some fresh pasteles during a workshop at the Cameron Center on Sunday morning.

Twenty members of the organization came out to share their knowledge with 14 students during the two-day workshop, which ended Sunday. Students learned how to make the traditional delicacy of masa, pork, olives and seasonings, all wrapped in ti-leaf packets and cooked.
