Camp Imua receives grants totaling $12,500
WAILUKU - Imua Family Services has received two grants to support Camp Imua, which provides a weeklong camp experience for about 50 children with disabilities in Maui County.
The Friends of Hawaii Charities gave $7,500 and HEI Charitable Foundation $5,000 on behalf of Maui Electric Co.
"We are committed to the health and welfare of the children in Maui County," said MECO President Ed Reinhardt. "We are pleased to be able to support Camp Imua and help provide opportunities for these children to gain self-confidence and experience personal growth."
The Friends of Hawaii Charities, formed in 1998, tapped funds generated through the Sony Open Professional Golf Association tour tournament on Oahu. This grant is one of many that the Friends of Hawaii Charities awards in partnership with Sony and the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation in pursuit of the its mission to support charity programs that benefit Hawaii's women, children, youth and needy.
Camp Imua, which completed its 32nd program in June, is free for campers. The camp requires $50,000 in financial support and more than $150,000 in donations of goods and services to operate, a news release said.
