HI-5 redemption center opens today

PUKALANI - A new HI-5 redemption center for cans, bottles and plastic drink containers will open this morning on the grounds of the Pukalani Community Church of the Nazarene.

The center is only for residents to redeem their 5-cent deposit on drink containers, according to an official with Maui Disposal, the site operator. Newspaper, cardboard and other recyclables will not be accepted.

The church is at 211 Hiwalani Loop. Operating hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, and from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturdays. Workers take a lunch break from noon to 12:30 p.m.

In the Upcountry region, Maui Disposal also operates redemption centers on Makani Road in Makawao and adjacent to the Haiku Community Center.
