As preparations are made for today's blessing of new emergency room facilities at Maui Memorial Medical Center, SSFM International construction inspector Warren Shimabukuro takes a moment Monday to check out the view from the new waiting room. The $9.6 million project includes nine new exam/treatment bays, an additional triage room and another 6,200 square feet of space, giving the facility a total of 14,600 square feet. The new facility will begin serving patients Wednesday, and workers will turn their attention to renovating old emergency room facilities, a project expected to continue through December; MMMC's emergency room is the second busiest in the state, serving 34,317 patients in 2007. Foreman Ray Agaran tackles projects Monday in the new triage room.
