Maui Outdoor Circle members and volunteers plant a monkeypod tree near the intersection of Hana and Haleakala Highways on Saturday morning. Saturday’s planting of three monkeypods and five rainbow shower trees marks the start of a project to place “islands” of trees along Haleakala Highway all the way to Pukalani. Jacaranda trees and Cook Island pines will be included at higher elevations. People interested in joining the Maui Outdoor Circle, or helping to plant trees, can call 878-6455 for information.
