KAHULUI - The Sierra Club Maui Group will host a "Red, White and Blue Candidates' Picnic and Candidates' Day Outrigger Canoe Regatta" from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Lae'ula O Kai canoe hale at Kanaha Beach Park.
The event will provide an opportunity for candidates running for office to talk story with the public. It is also a fundraising event for the Sierra Club Maui Group and Lae'ula O Kai Canoe Cub.
It will open with canoe races from 9 to 11 a.m., followed by the picnic from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. with music, a silent auction and a keiki activity area hosted by the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary and the Pacific Whale Foundation. Food, beverages and desserts will be on sale.
As a fundraiser, organizers will request a $5 donation. Keiki will get in free.
Registration for the canoe regatta opens at 8:30 a.m., with an entry fee of $100 per canoe crew.
