Valley Isle Kennel Club members gather at a recent club event. The group will host Responsible Dog Ownership Day Saturday at Lahaina Cannery Mall.
The dog days of summer arrive with Responsible Dog Ownership Day, sponsored by the Valley Isle Kennel Club of Maui. More than a dozen unique breeds of show dogs will strut their stuff, including a Belgian sheepdog, doberman pinscher, golden retriever, labrador retriever, Australian shepherd, Irish wolf hound, chihuahua, toy fox terrier and miniature poodle. The event will showcase the qualities of these hot dogs and offer the public a chance to learn more about the trained canines. Activities are part of the American Kennel Club's Responsible Dog Ownership Month.
HOLOKAI CLUB
Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon, Queen Ka'ahumanu Center
"Reading for Fun" is the theme of this month's Holokai Club, held at the mall's Play Area. This free event for children in kindergarten through grade 5 will feature an arts and crafts activity, children's entertainment, and information from Maui's educational organizations. No registration or fee is required. Parents are simply asked to remain with their children at all times. A Holokai Club Newsletter is available at the mall's Customer Service station.
