Nimble fingers bear a heavy load

September 5, 2008
The Maui News
A tournahauler operator pulls away with a full load of sugar cane stalks after being loaded by the powerful, but surprisingly nimble fingers of a cane grab. In the foreground, the driver of a “kolili” tractor rakes the field along Hana Highway in Spreckelsville, combing through the powdery soil for stray stalks of cane in the field being harvested. The tournahaulers are capable of carrying 45 to 65 tons in a load, equal to nearly an entire acre of harvested cane.
