KAHULUI - A short course in what it takes to start a business in Hawaii will be offered by the Small Business Development Center from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Maui Community College's Laulima Building, Room 225.
This course is offered several times a year. "Starting a Venture in Hawaii" uses a video, lecture and question-and-answer format to review marketing, financial and operational issues.
It is offered in conjunction with the Office of Continuing Education and Training at MCC.
David Fisher, director of the center, has taught this course on Maui for 16 years, and it has evolved over time to appeal to both experienced entrepreneurs and untried business people.
For beginners, it answers questions that beginners may have, such as what resources are available in Hawaii to help businesses and which are the key issues to concentrate on.
The cost is $23, which includes a sample business plan and a booklet, "Starting a Business on Maui." To register, call the Hawaii SBDC Network at 875-2402, or go to http://hsbdcn.ecenterdirect.com/.
