Drivers urged to use caution through construction projects
KAHULUI - Construction projects on two Maui County highways will affect traffic this week, transportation officials have announced.
The affected highway segments are:
* Haleakala Highway from North Firebreak Road to the Kula Highway junction for installation of pavement markings. The work will require single-lane closures from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
* Maunaloa Highway between Kaunakakai and Hoolehua for pavement striping. The work will require single-lane closures from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Drivers are asked to exercise caution and to observe all signs and traffic guides in the construction areas.

Workshop agenda to include protection plan for Kahoolawe
WAILUKU - A workshop on a draft Cultural Use Plan for Kahoolawe will be conducted by the Edith Kanakao'le Foundation during a meeting of the Kahoolawe Island Reserve Commission on Wednesday on Maui.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. at the Cameron Center.
The agenda also includes proposals for a stewardship agreement with the Protect Kahoolawe Ohana and a monitoring plan and procedures for dealing with burial sites in the Kahoolawe Island Reserve.
Commission meetings are open to the public and provide for public comment. For information, call the commission office at 243-5020.
Hawaii Health Systems Corp. meeting available via video link
WAILUKU - A board meeting of the Hawaii Health Systems Corp. on Thursday will be open to participants on Maui through a video teleconference link at the Maui Memorial Medical Center, the corporation said.
The board meeting will be held at noon at Leahi Hospital on Oahu.
Two police officers receive reprimands for vehicle wrecks
WAILUKU - Two Maui police officers received reprimands after being involved in motor vehicle collisions earlier this year, according to reports to the Maui Police Commission.
The disciplinary actions resulted from police internal investigations that concluded in August.
One officer received an oral reprimand after misjudging the distance and hitting a fire hydrant in February. Another officer received a written reprimand and was required to attend driver training after the bottom of a police vehicle hit the road while the officer was responding to a call in May. The names of the officers were not made public.
