State recreation plan under review
HONOLULU - The state Department of Land and Natural Resources is seeking public comment in updating the Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan, with an online link to comment and a series of public meetings to be held beginning Wednesday on Maui.
The Maui meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Maui Planning Commission Conference Room at 250 S. High St.
On Lanai a meeting will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Lanai Public Library. On Molokai, a meeting will be held at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 8 at Kulana Oiwi, the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands offices in Kaunakakai.
To participate online, go to pbrhawaii-consult.limehouse.com/portal.
The public also may download and print the file at www.hawaiistateparks.org or www.hawaii.gov/dlnr and return by mail, fax or e-mail by Oct. 15.
Public comments will help shape future hiking, biking, boating, hunting, fishing and ocean recreation opportunities in Hawaii, according to the DLNR announcement. Updating the plan will enable Hawaii to maintain eligibility for federal grants from the Land and Water Conservation Fund, administered through the National Park Service.
Based on an analysis of the public input, a plan of action for addressing recreational demand and issues confronting outdoor recreation in Hawaii will be developed. A draft of the updated plan should be completed by the end of the year.
