With the community getting together and jamming the side of Kaahumanu Avenue, Sandy Hew of Kahului displays her excitement as she waits for the start of the Maui County Fair Parade on Thursday afternoon near Maui Community College.
Hew said she comes out to enjoy the festivities every year and likes to support the parade participants from around the community.
"I get the people going with my clappers," she said.
As the parade gets under way, a platoon of Maui County firefighters headed by Batallion Chiefs David Thyne (left) and Jeff Shaffer lead a line of emergency vehicles along the course from the MCC campus to the fairgrounds at the War Memorial Complex.
With an estimated 3,000 people in the parade along with spectators, the fair Thursday appeared to be drawing a healthy crowd, despite fears of effects of the soft island economy.
