Drawing a fairly big crowd

Community comes together

The Maui News

Maybe better than getting her face painted, Tayte Kamoku, 5, of Kihei squeals with delight after winning a prize in the goblet toss with her dad, Kehau, in the games tent at the 86th Maui County Fair on Saturday afternoon. Tayte was celebrating her 5th birthday with a family trip to the fair.

Finding a little quiet midway through the four-day weekend event, Richard Jordan and Chris Mamiya take a break from their chores at the Loco Moco booth, operated by members of the Masonic Lodge of Maui.

High overhead, youngsters and adults take a spin on the Wave Swinger, one of the many E.K. Fernandez rides at the fair.

Fair Association President Avery Chumbley said attendance was well over expectations. On Saturday, he said Friday's paid attendance was 14,458, up from 13,534 in 2007.
