KAHULUI - The Kiwanis Club of Maui installed officers and presented $10,000 to Imua Family Services during its installation banquet at Cary & Eddie's Hideaway last month.
The donation was through the Kiwanians' participation in the Weinberg Friends Program. In this program, a service group schedules a community service project on a Saturday, then recommends a nonprofit 501(c)(3) group, which works with the poor and needy, to receive a Weinberg Foundation grant.
The project requires at least 100 hours of service-group members' work. The Kiwanians painted buildings at the Boy Scouts' Camp Maluhia in Kahakuloa last month.
The $10,000 was presented to Karen Jayne of Imua Family Services by past club President Annie Chin.
Succeeding Chin for the 2008-09 term is Mike Miyamoto.
Also installed during the Sept. 19 banquet were Mike Goodwin, president-elect; Bryce Thayer, vice president; Kristi Noguchi, treasurer; and Kathy Suguitan, secretary.
Established in 1947, the Kiwanis Club of Maui is the second oldest Kiwanis group in Hawaii. The club is part of Kiwanis International, whose purpose is "service to youth, community and nation."
